Penelope Pitstop Sees Pink

Cherry, with a dash of bubblegum
because, as all young ladies know,
a pop of colour late at night
will keep you safe
from strangers.

Except it’s daylight and the man
is not a stranger.
Who would have guessed,
your guardian could be
your worst archenemy?

Who would have thought
your virgin-white come-fuck-me boots
were not designed
for running, or for climbing rocks
or pedaling your getaway?

Who ever knew a car designed to hold
your lipstick wouldn’t get you very far,
and me, oh my,
the men who want you,
want you,
want you,
dead or alive.
