Take the Tulips First

Pep squad rebels in the red dust
Me, you and Regina
Where are the goddamn kids
Top 20 on the Toshiba
Death, taxes
and Dukakis in the tank
Now a burst of applause
from the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood,
gifted and talented,
spritzes with the book club;
Ref, I barely brushed him
Ref, I’m invoking
the Geneva convention
Is it illegal to put flyers on telephone poles?
OKAY (smile)
The mailman’s foot is in the gate
and Sister Tesco, how wonderful
take the tulips first —the Davenport, the Curly Sue.
Roast sparrows don’t just fly into your mouth.
Friday in the 4HL
and I can really feel the pull
of your spaceship, your hot milk,
your naked storm.
